IFG Companies Announces D. Joseph Slater Joins as an Assistant Vice President - Specialty and Excess Casualty

NEW YORK, NY - IFG Companies has announced that D. Joseph Slater has joined as an Assistant Vice President in its Specialty GL and Excess Casualty unit. Joe comes to IFG with six years of underwriting and business development experience for primary, excess and umbrella coverages. Joe will be based in IFG's New York City office.

Before joining IFG, Joe worked for Scottsdale Insurance Company where he developed and underwrote a large book of primary and excess general liability business. In that role, Joe developed relationships with wholesale brokers, primarily in the Northeast, and underwrote business across a variety of general liability coverages, including hospitality, contractors, premises and products liability. Prior to working for Scottsdale, Joe worked as a primary and excess liability underwriter with First Mercury Insurance Corporation. While there, Joe built and maintained a large, diverse book of business, consisting of risks ranging from small and middle market accounts to larger national accounts. Throughout his underwriting career, while pursuing growth, Joe has focused on maintaining underwriting discipline as his principal priority.
Joe holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Providence College, where he majored in Economics and had a minor in Finance. In 2009, he was inducted into the Omicron Delta Epsilon Society (International Economics Honor Society). Joe is a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter and has earned Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Associate in Reinsurance (ARe) designations.
