HARTFORD, CT - IFG Companies has announced that Geoffrey J. Smith has joined as Underwriting Manager of its nationwide Commercial Underwriting Renewal Center.  While managing the efficiency and effectiveness of the Commercial Renewal Center, Geoff will also have a senior leadership role across IFG's casualty underwriting operations in its Hartford office.  Geoff comes to IFG with almost three decades of insurance and reinsurance underwriting expertise that focused on excess casualty and specialty lines.

"In 2015, we established a national processing center to streamline and facilitate our commercial underwriting renewal processing, in part to make it easier for our producers to work with IFG.  We are very pleased to have Geoff join IFG and bring his deep casualty underwriting expertise, together with strong leadership and management capabilities, to oversee our renewal center and Hartford underwriting," said Bob Linton, Chairman of IFG Companies.

Geoff joins IFG from Union Mutual of Vermont where he served as its Director of Underwriting for its Commercial and Personal Lines.  Prior to Union Mutual, Geoff spent several years with Ironshore Specialty Insurance Company, where most recently he was an Executive Vice President.  Before that, Geoff was the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Underwriting Officer of IronStarr Excess Agency Ltd.  Prior to that, Geoff was President of AIG Cat Excess Liability Insurance Ltd., a subsidiary of American International Group.  Previously, he was a Vice President of General Reinsurance Corporation, a Vice President and Excess Casualty Manager of Starr Excess Liability Insurance Company Ltd. and a Vice President and New York Branch Facultative Manager of Zurich Reinsurance Centre-New York.
