POSITION SUMMARY

Develop and design proprietary Commercial General Liability forms and monitor, analyze and implement ISO products. Ensure successful implementation and consistent adherence with corporate goals, objectives and strategies by collaborating with peers, department heads and senior management.  Assist with the development and maintenance of underwriting manual and guidelines to insure quality and consistency of underwriting standards. Contribute to marketing activities designed to achieve profit and sale objectives on a countrywide multi-class basis.


PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with the development and maintenance of  a desired mix of products by class, geographic location by type and program specific coverage that are compatible with the corporate risk appetite and supportive of business goals and objectives. Facilitate the creation, development and implementation of new products or programs.

  • Research, and analyze industry trends and emerging issues to support the development products, services and/or new programs (i.e. identify target business and industry and economic factors, monitor legislative changes and judicial decisions, etc.).  Monitor industry and key competitor developments, and report significant and related events.  

  • Collaborate and maintain documentation on ideas, directives and corporate level think-tank sessions directed towards improving existing product lines, individual classifications, forms requirements or underwriting instructions for our General Agency plan.  Ensure company personnel's information is collected, reviewed, investigated and consolidated so that it can be discussed by the appropriate company personnel and is disseminated to key decision makers.  Coordinate on resources and system requirements needed to assure timely and efficient completion of projects.

  • Review and enhance existing IFG CGL products and develop new product lines to ensure quality, marketability and completeness.  Outline suggested changes and the time and resources needed to complete the tasks.  Assist Marketing in creating a product line corporate identity, creating as much consistency and uniformity as possible without jeopardizing creativit​y and marketability. Assist with the filing and maintenance of state rates, rule and form filings for assigned products.  

  • Update and maintain CGL product lines manuals.  Support staff underwriters and other company personnel regarding general liability issues. Incorporate manual changes as initiated by underwriting management to improve underwriting results.  

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Exceptional deductive-reasoning abilities and a natural inclination towards researching topics to gain a higher level of understanding and competency.  The cognitive skills to grasp concepts and ideas quickly, and take incomplete information and convert it into a finished product ready for review and discussion.

  • Ability to work with detailed technical material.

  • Knowledge of commercial lines rating.

  • Ability to influence and collaborate effectively with co-workers.

  • The ability to organize, prioritize and timely handle large volumes of work and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to use Microsoft programs such as Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word or other data based applications.

  • Experience in handling large volumes of varied assignments accurately and swiftly, with minimal supervision.

  • The ability to work in a team-structured environment, meeting common goals, objectives and deadlines.

  • Superior writing and highly developed communication skills.

  • Willingness to travel as needed.


EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / CERTIFICATIONS

  • College degree preferred or equivalent work experience.

  • Minimum of three years Commercial General Liability underwriting experience.

  • Minimum of three years’ experience drafting and developing CGL forms and endorsements.

  • Possess or have made substantial progress toward one or more of the following: insurance designations: CPCU, ARM, AU, ASLI or AIU.  

  • SERFF experience helpful.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Physical demands are considered to be that of an office environment, climate controlled, with minimal physical exertion.  This position requires prolonged sitting, ability to utilize a computer and interactions with others in meetings or via phone. Occasional travel needed.
