IFG Companies Announces Andrew P. Kempen, FCAS, MAAA, Joins as Senior Vice President and Chief Pricing Actuary

DENVER, CO - IFG Companies has announced that Andrew P. Kempen has joined as Senior Vice President and Chief Pricing Actuary. Andy comes to IFG Companies with 14+ years of insurance-related actuarial experience in pricing, modeling and reserving. He joins IFG's Corporate Actuarial Department and will be based in Denver, Colorado.
"As Chief Pricing Actuary, Andy will be working closely with underwriters, claim professionals, product development specialists and unit leaders to advise them in making rating/pricing decisions, in evaluating underwriting analyses and in assessing the performance of classes or lines of business. We are truly delighted to have Andy join IFG Companies and combine his actuarial competencies with his ability to work so well as an advisor to our business units," said Bob Linton, Chairman of IFG Companies.
Andy began his actuarial career at Milliman (formerly, Milliman & Robertson) in its Brookfield, Wisconsin office, as an Actuarial Analyst, working on commercial lines reserving engagements. After Milliman, Andy worked for ING Group as an Actuarial Analyst in the valuation department of its U.S. life and annuities unit. Thereafter, Andy worked for three years at United Services Automobile Association ("USAA") in San Antonio, Texas as a Senior Actuarial Analyst, where he worked on personal lines pricing, rate reviews, reinsurance analyses and the pricing component of regulatory filings. After USAA, he became an Associate Actuary for General Electric's warranty services business, where he priced and reserved automobile warranty risks. In 2007, Andy joined Argo Group International Holdings, Ltd. in its Excess & Surplus lines segment. While there, he held a number of roles, of which most recently he served as both Chief Pricing Actuary of the Excess & Surplus lines segment and Co-Chief Pricing Actuary of Argo's U.S. Operations. In these latter positions, Andy oversaw pricing reviews, rate filings and the creation and enhancement of various pricing tools, while working closely with underwriters and claim professionals to ensure profitability. Additionally, Andy helped introduce predictive modeling capabilities for targeted classes of business and participated in reinsurance purchasing analyses, capital modeling and enterprise risk management.
Andy graduated from Drake University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with a double major in Actuarial Science and Accounting. He is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
